Justin Vernon, aka Bon Iver, has come a long way from the cabin in the Wisconsin woods where he made his stunning debut. He’s recorded with Kanye, toured extensively and been the subject of fawning reviews. Less forlorn and mopey, the free-flowing vibe of this self-titled disc is consistently enjoyable. A good match is the richly layered Chateau St. Jean 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon Sonoma County, California $34.95 (977173).
Joel Ford and Daniel Lopatin’s gloriously futuristic yet charmingly retro debut has invited comparisons to Daft Punk. But 1980s schlockmeister Jan Hammer of Miami Vice soundtrack fame might be more apt given the slickness of Channel Pressure’s synthpop gems. Unbridled fun is also the aim of the buoyant and refreshing Wolf Blass Wines 2010 Red Label Semillon Sauvignon Blanc South Eastern Australia $12.95 (323063).
The glossy sheen that covers the tracks captured on It’s All True, the fourth album from Junior Boys, doesn’t jive with the scorned lover lyrics. This is as polished and sophisticated as the Hamilton electro-pop duo has ever sounded. It calls to mind the latest and greatest release from Stratus Vineyards. The 2007 Stratus White Niagara-on-the- Lake, Niagara Peninsula $44 (660704) is a polished blend that’s complex and powerful.

A new Blu-ray release will introduce a new generation to this charming film about the whimsical title character who developed a rich inner life to cope with her sad upbringing. Audrey Tautou stars, with an overly romanticized version of Paris that you’ll wish actually existed. The same disarming French charm lies at the heart of La Bastide Blanche 2009 Bandol, France $21.95 (071084).

Ed Helms’ sad and wonderful Tim Lippe provides the sweet core, while John C. Reilly delivers the vulgar raunch in Cedar Rapids. It’s not hard to like this offbeat comedy about an insurance agent who goes to a convention that’s anything but conventional. Offbeat, unusual and enjoyable also describes Quails’ Gate Estate Winery 2010 Chasselas – Pinot Blanc – Pinot Gris Okanagan Valley $17.99 (585737).
