A new spin on a mealtime classic
Mid-September is when cranberry growers across North America began the six-week harvest of this unique fruit, making it a timely addition to the dinner table as families begin to gather for the holidays. Grown on long-running vines in sandy bogs and marshes, the cranberries that are gathered for juices, sauces and relishes are flooded in about half a foot of water the night before harvest and stirred up by water reels the next day, causing the fruit to float to the surface so it can be collected and sent to the processing plant. Known for its cranberry juices, Ocean Spray accounts for about 60 percent of all the cranberries harvested in Canada each year, working with growers in British Columbia, Quebec, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, along with a few U.S. states. Ocean Spray’s Money Penny cocktail offers a new take on serving cranberry during the holidays, with fresh fruit and a touch of sparkle that will turn any occasion festive.
